How to Set Up Your TagAlong Smart Device in 5 Minutes
A step-by-step guide to setting up your TagAlong card or keytag, from unboxing to sharing your first contact. No technical skills required.
You just got your TagAlong smart device. Congratulations! Whether you chose a Card or a KeyTag, setting it up is surprisingly simple. No apps to download, no technical expertise needed.
Here's how to go from unboxing to sharing your first contact in under 5 minutes.
Step 1: Activate Your Device
Take your TagAlong and hold it against the back of your smartphone for 1-2 seconds.
For iPhone users: Hold the device near the top-back of your phone. iPhones from iPhone XR/XS onwards support NFC reading automatically.
For Android users: Make sure NFC is on in your settings (Settings > Connected devices > NFC). Hold the device against the back center of your phone.
Your browser opens automatically, taking you to your setup page.
If tapping doesn't work right away, try moving the device slowly across the back of your phone. NFC antennas sit in slightly different positions on different phones. You can also scan the QR code on the back of your device instead.
Step 2: Set Up Your Profile
Your TagAlong device comes with a full digital profile. You can use it as a simple redirect to any URL (your Instagram, portfolio, booking page), or as a complete digital business card with all your details, social links, lead capture, and more. TagFlex lets you switch between these anytime.
Fill in your profile:
Basic Information:
- Full name, job title, company name
- Company description and industry
Contact Details:
- Phone number(s), primary and secondary
- Email, WhatsApp number, company address
Social Media & Links (add as many as you need):
- Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat
- Portfolio, personal website, blog
- Music links (Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, SoundCloud)
- Payment links (receive money directly)
- Booking links (Calendly, Cal.com, TidyCal)
- Creative profiles (GitHub, Behance, Dribbble, Figma)
- Custom links for any URL you want to share
You don't have to fill in every field right away. Start with the essentials: name, phone, email, and your most important links. Add more from your dashboard anytime.
Step 3: Upload a Profile Photo
Optional but highly recommended. Seeing your face alongside your details helps people remember you, especially after meeting many people at an event. A clear, professional headshot works best.
Step 4: Save and Test
Hit save, and your profile is live. Test it:
- Tap your device against your phone and your profile should load instantly
- Check that all your links work
- Try the "Save Contact" button to verify the vCard downloads correctly
- Ask a friend to test with their phone (both tap and QR scan)
Using TagFlex to Switch Destinations
This is where TagAlong really shines. TagFlex lets you switch what your device points to, anytime, without a new device.

Sharing Your Device
When you meet someone:
- Show your card or keytag, both look premium and professional
- They tap their phone against it, or scan the QR code on the back
- Your profile loads instantly with your photo, details, links, and save button
- They save your contact with one tap and you're in their phone
- Lead capture (optional) where they can leave their details for you too
Under 10 seconds. No fumbling, no spelling out emails, no hoping they'll save your number later.
Updating Your Profile Later
Changed your phone number? Got promoted? New social media account? Just:
- Log in to your dashboard
- Edit your profile
- Save
Every future tap shares your updated information. No reprinting. No new device needed.
Common Questions
"Can I have different profiles for different purposes?"
Yes! TagFlex lets you create multiple profiles and switch between them. Work, personal, event-specific: just activate whichever you need.
"What happens if I lose my device?"
Enable Lost Mode from your dashboard. It displays recovery contact info to whoever finds it. You can also disable the device remotely. Order a replacement that links to the same account, so there's no setup from scratch.
"Can I see who's tapping my device?"
Yes. Your analytics dashboard shows views, NFC vs QR usage, visitor devices, locations, and timing. With lead capture, you also get their direct contact details.
"Is my information safe?"
You control exactly what's on your profile. Only information you explicitly add is visible. Nothing is exposed that you haven't chosen to share.
